Our Volunteers are the heart of the Safe Haven Foundation, generously giving their time and skills to support our mission. They work tirelessly to assist survivors of domestic violence, providing essential care, outreach, and resources to help rebuild lives.

Prof. Ibe Ifeakandu

Prof. Ibe Ifeakandu holds the following qualifications: Ph.D in Law from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, United Kingdom, B. A (Hons), LLB (Hons); and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, Nigeria and an LL.M from Nasarawa State University. She attended the Nigerian Law School Abuja from 2002-2003 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in July 2003, after passing the qualifying bar examination.

Prof.  Ifeakandu is a Professor of Law at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and her areas of interest are human rights with an emphasis on human trafficking; and criminal justice, specifically money laundering and financing of terrorism where she has written several book chapters/journal articles; and edited journal articles. However, she has written book chapters, and journal articles; and also presented papers at seminars, roundtables, and trainings on diverse subjects of law.

Adriana María Barba, B.A., J.D, LL.M.

Adriana María Barba was born in Bogota, Colombia. She earned her BA in International Criminal Justice with magna cum laude honors from John Jay College in New York City. Due to her proven interest in international affairs and human rights she was admitted and graduated from the St. Thomas University School of Law’s LL.M. program in Intercultural Human Rights prior to earning her Juris Doctor degree from Nova Southeastern University.

Adriana currently resides in Barcelona where she obtained her Licenciatura en Derecho (Spanish Law Degree) in June ´13. There, she has practiced as an International Trade Attorney and currently is the Managing Partner of her own practice: Vázquez & Barba International Legal Consultants www.vbilc.com where she specializes in International Commercial Law and Immigration Law.

She is also certified by ESADE, the best law school in Spain, in International Taxation and will soon be certified by the local Bar Association in International Litigation. As a dual degree lawyer Adriana fully comprehends the intricacies of both civil and common law, and is authorized to practice transactionally throughout the European Union.  She maintains her commitment to Human Rights by participating on volunteer trips with humanitarian missions, writing articles on Human Rights related issues, and as part of the Editorial Board of the International Human Rights Law Journal.

Dr. Osatohanmwen Osamudiamen Anastasia Eruaga, PhD

Osatohanmwen (Osato) Anastasia Eruaga, PhD an Associate Professor with the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies is the Head of Department, Private and Property Law at the Institute. She studied Law at the University of Benin, Nigeria and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. Osato obtained an LL.M (Maritime Law) from the University of Nottingham, the United Kingdom in 2009 and her doctoral degree in Maritime Affairs (maritime law and policy) from the World Maritime University, Sweden.

An NDDC Scholar and an Alumni of the Yeosu Academy of the Law of the Sea, has been involved in extensive legal research and writing. She has served as a speaker and guest lecturer at several local and international learned events. Her interests are in the areas of public international law, especially Law of the Sea, Marine Environmental Law, and Sustainability as well as Human Rights Law. She currently serves as the Nigerian branch representative to the International Law Association Committee on the Protection of People at Sea.

Osato is passionate about supporting processes that enhance gender equality and protect the rights of vulnerable persons, especially children. She loves to travel and experience new cultures.

Gary Kelechi Amadi

LL. B (IMSU), B.L (LAGOS), LLM (LJMU), A(Arb)UK

With 15 years of experience in legal practice, Gary Amadi is a seasoned expert in his field. As an Academic and Research Fellow at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), he contributes to the apex legal institution’s mission to advance legal research and education.

Previously, Gary worked with the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) from 2017 to 2022, serving as a Research and Programme Officer. During his time, he played a crucial role in coordinating anti-corruption efforts, promoting government reforms, and advising on the prosecution of corruption cases. His contributions led to increased convictions of corrupt officials, capacity building of anti-corruption agencies, and the development of key policy documents notable among them are the Whistle Blowers Policy document and the Asset Recovery Strategy Document which sheds more light on the non – conviction based asset recovery.

From 2022 to July 2024, Gary served as Senior Special Assistant to the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). His efforts resulted in increased awareness of Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and Violence Against Persons issues, enhanced prosecution of traffickers, and expanded operational capacity. He also contributed to the development of policy documents, including the Anti-Trafficking Action Plan and NAPTIP’s Disability Inclusion Policy. Gary was part of the team that developed the training manual for training of judges and prosecutors on Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) issues especially as provided in VAPP Act, 2015.  He was also the focal person for NAPTIP on the Schools Anti Trafficking and Advocacy Project (STEAP), in partnership with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), supported by the Government of the Netherlands. The project focused on prevention as a tool in curbing TIP as well as rehabilitation and reintegration of victims/survivors of school age.

Gary holds an LLM in International Business and Commercial Law from Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK. His research focuses on Global Finance Law, particularly in the area of money laundering, Illicit Financial Flows, and terrorism finance, with a special interest in TIP and SGBV-related issues. As a lecturer at NIALS, Gary has published and edited numerous scholarly articles in various books and journals.
