Founder's Corner
“Seeking help is not a sign of weakness; it’s the first step towards reclaiming one’s life and building a brighter future for yourself and your children. Whether you are a man or a woman, remember that reaching out is an affirmation of your strength and courage.”
Professor Fatima Waziri-Azi - Founder
In a society where women and children often endure the harshest forms of injustice, I felt a deep, undeniable calling to act. This passion ignited the creation of Safe Haven Foundation (SHF) in 2016. Our mission is clear: to confront domestic violence and sexual abuse through strategic legal interventions, evidence-based advocacy, and comprehensive support for both survivors and offenders.
Domestic and sexual violence transcends all boundaries—cultural, economic, and religious. In Nigeria, as in many places, deeply ingrained cultural norms and a lack of reliable data, fueled by stigma, further entrench the issue. But domestic abuse isn’t just about physical harm; it is an ongoing cycle of control, coercion, and dehumanization. It manifests in physical violence, sexual abuse, financial manipulation, emotional degradation, and isolating individuals from their support networks.
At Safe Haven Foundation, we are more than just a refuge; we are a lifeline between a painful past and a hopeful, violence-free future. Seeking help is not a surrender to weakness—it is the ultimate declaration of your strength and determination. It is the first brave step toward reclaiming your life and building a safer, brighter future for yourself and your children. Whether you are a man or a woman, remember that reaching out is a testament to your resilience and courage, and at Safe Haven, we are here to walk that journey with you.
