Safe Haven Foundation (SHF) was honoured to participate in the Inaugural Programme Steering Committee (PSC) Meeting of the European Union Support to End Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (ESGBV) Programme, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
Representing SHF, Prof. Fatima Waziri. Azi, Ph.D Founder of SHF and Team Lead, joined government representatives and other key stakeholders to help shape the strategic direction of one of Nigeria’s most significant investments in strengthening the national response to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
The European Union-funded programme, implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), seeks to strengthen prevention, response, coordination, survivor-centred services, institutional capacity, data systems, and behavioural change initiatives aimed at reducing SGBV across Nigeria.
The inaugural meeting introduced members of the Programme Steering Committee, reviewed the Committee’s Terms of Reference, and provided an opportunity for stakeholders to validate key programme documents and discuss implementation priorities.
SHF welcomed the opportunity to contribute its practical experience in providing legal assistance, emergency shelter, psychosocial support, research, and advocacy for survivors of SGBV. Drawing from years of direct engagement with survivors, SHF continues to advocate for survivor-centred approaches that prioritize dignity, accountability, accessibility, and long-term recovery.
As a member of the Programme Steering Committee, SHF looks forward to working closely with government, development partners, and civil society to support the successful implementation of the programme and strengthen Nigeria’s systems for preventing and responding to sexual and gender based violence.
The Foundation remains committed to ensuring that every survivor has access to safety, justice, and the support needed to rebuild their lives.
Together, we can build a Nigeria where survivors are protected, perpetrators are held accountable, and every person can live free from violence
