Celebrating the Opening of Safe Haven Foundation Office & Shelter in Abuja

On December 10, 2024, the Safe Haven Foundation (SHF) marked a major milestone with the grand opening of its Office and Shelter in Abuja. This significant event underscores SHF’s commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse, and offering them a safe space.
The opening brought together a diverse and distinguished audience, including representatives from government institutions, the diplomatic corps, donor and implementing organizations, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and the academic community.
In her opening remarks, Professor Fatima Waziri-Azi, PhD, the visionary founder of Safe Haven Foundation, emphasized the importance of this new chapter in the fight against domestic violence and sexual abuse. “The opening of the Safe Haven Foundation Office and Shelter is the beginning of a transformative journey to provide a safe, supportive, and empowering space for survivors. Safe Haven was born out of a vision to restore hope, amplify the voices of survivors, and ensure that no one walks alone on their path to safety and justice,” she stated.

Professor Waziri-Azi went on to highlight the Foundation’s mission which aims to be a beacon of hope, healing, and empowerment, offering survivors access to critical services such as legal assistance, sheltering, and counseling.

The launch was also a call to action for partners and stakeholders to join hands in the movement to eradicate domestic violence and sexual abuse. Professor Waziri-Azi extended an open invitation to all individuals, organizations, and institutions to partner with Safe Haven Foundation, emphasizing the importance of shared responsibility and collaborative efforts.
